PEARLAND - Just before noon today a Pearland resident reported to police seeing a man breaking out a window in a trailer home in the 1900 block of Garden Road. The resident said he believed the man was armed.

When the first patrol unit arrived the man was still there and quickly surrendered to the officers.

The officers believed a second man was inside the trailer and tried to call him out.  Getting no response they called the CART squad, a team of SWAT officers from adjoining agencies and surrounded the trailer blocking off parts of the neighborhood for about two and a half hours.

Lieutenant Onesimo Lopez said police negotiators tried to call out anyone inside the trailer and again no response so they fire gas inside.  As police were about to make a forced entry a second burglar came out of hiding and surrendered.  He had suffered some minor facial irritation from the gas but was otherwide uninjured.

Both men are in custody and as the investigation continues.
