            East Isle Communities

              Proactive Community Response Team

March 8th, 2010

Officers of the Galveston Police Department East Isle Communities - PCRT battled it out with crime from every direction; from prostitution crimes to residential speeders. In the past two weeks four operations were ran targeting various complaints of illegal activity which resulted in 22 arrests and over 109 citations written.

Operation: "Don't Take that Bike!" was conducted to target property crimes, specifically theft. Officers put out a bait bicycle in various locations in the East Isle communities and conducted surveillance on it. Fortunately, only one attempt was made to steal the bicycle over the course of the two-day operation. Three arrests were made during the operation for Theft - State Jail, Solicitation of Narcotics, and Prostitution. The operation was put together and ran by Officer Dannie Simpson #461.

Operation: "Let off the Gas" was put in place as a week long operation targeting speeders inside the residential neighborhoods. The operation was to promote safer driving in the residential neighborhoods that harbor the daily activities of families. Officers were instructed to vigilantly enforce the traffic laws and by the end of the week over 100 citations were written to violators and one suspect was arrested for Evading Arrest/ Detention in a Vehicle. Heading up the operation was Officer Ernesto Garcia #393.

Operation: "Crack-Down" targeted the re-occurring problems of street level drug activity. Officers were assisted by the Harris County Sherriff's Office Special Crimes Unit. With the help from the deputies from HCSO, East Isle Officers put together a buy-bust utilizing the HCSO deputies as undercover officers. The undercover officers targeted known "hot spots" of drug trafficking by approaching street level drug dealers and purchasing crack-cocaine from them. The operation was a success as it removed 5 local drug dealers from within the East Isle Communities and handed out over one million dollars worth of bonds. Suspects were arrested for Delivery of a Controlled Substance - crack-cocaine. In charge of the operation was Officer James Emmerson #373.

Operation: "Dirty Leg" was conducted to combat the local issues dealing with prostitution. Officers were once again assisted by the Harris County Sherriff's Office Special Crimes Unit. Female officers working an undercover capacity, posed as prostitutes as they were flagged down by suspects attempting to solicit sex for money. The undercover officers would then walk the suspects to a motel room that was rented and occupied by an arrest team of officers. The 5 hour operation was a huge success and netted 12 arrests with 11 of those arrests being for Prostitution. Running the operation was Officer Alnasir Mohammud #446.

The citizens among the East Isle Communities voiced their concerns and officers heeded them and answered back with a four punch combo by targeting violators of property crimes, the speeders inside the residential neighborhoods, the street level drug dealers affecting the quality of life of residents, and the nuisance of prostitution activity occurring throughout the community. As stated several times, officers will continue to listen to the concerns from the community and will relentlessly attack those problems to improve the quality of life within the Galveston East Isle communities. REALLY Good Job! Much appreciated all law enforcement involved. My neighorhood in Mid-Galveston, had also seen a step-up of patrols due to us as citizens calling and reporting some activities. Just yesterday we needed help with 4 kids displaying lewd acts and loitering. GPD was hear before we could even blink an eye. I and my neighbor was totally amazed! Again, thank you all.
